Emilie & Dave’s New Years Eve Wedding (Picton)

This past New Year’s Eve, Emilie & Dave had their beautiful and elegant barn wedding at Picton’s The Mill House in Prince Edward County (very close to Sandbanks Provincial Park).  This gorgeous location not only offered a custom-built wedding venue barn (with heated floors and built-in audio system), but a two storey farm house that was rented for the occasion.  This was incredibly convenient for a wedding where many family members were not local and wanted to use the same location for a ‘home base’ for the Bride’s family. As well they were able to use a second barn (12 km away) for the Groom’s family called the Old Dairy Barn At Sandbanks.

Emilie and Dave’s wedding was unique (at least unique for me).  They wanted a WOW experience for their arrival to the ceremony and they certainly achieved it.  When Dave proposed to Emilie while they were out West, he surprised her with a helicopter ride into the Rockie Mountains.  To include that into their wedding, the two of them (and I) flew via helicopter to The Mill House for the ceremony.  We departed from the old Picton airport (a photographer’s dream location with its old buildings) and had a short 1200ft tour of Prince Edward County.  We then circled the venue and made the big entrance. Only a couple of people knew about the surprise and they did a great job of getting all the guests outside next to the barn for the big arrival.

I choose a Black & White theme for this preview because I felt it represented the elegance and sophistication of this wedding.  It was a beautiful wedding day with excellent family and guests, a great meal, the ceremonial cutting of the cake with a sword, a beautiful venue, touching speeches, fun photo booth and great music … with a  grand finale of an impressive midnight fireworks display courtesy of North Star Fireworks Entertainment.

A huge thank you to Emilie and Dave for hiring me to be their private wedding photographer for the day.  Even though I was with them for 12 hours (12:30pm to 12:30am), the time flew by (pun intended) and it was a very fun day.  I wish them all the best.

Viamede Weddings – The True Kawartha Experience

Having shot so many weddings at Stoney Lake’s Viamede Resort, I thought it was time to do a blog post dedicated just to their venue.  Over all the years of my professional photography services, I have been at Viamede almost every year and have shot weddings there covering all four seasons.

Viamede Resort is a great venue for multiple reasons.  The first and most obvious is its location on the very highly regarded Stoney Lake.  Other reasons are the option of a lakeside ceremony or in their historic chapel (a great backup if the weather is poor), excellent meals, excellent on-site accommodations for all the guests, lots of activities for families if they are spending multiple days at the resort, very experienced and accommodating staff, etc.  In truth you would need to visit their website to learn everything they have to offer, I’m just sharing pieces that I have been exposed to over the years through my clients.

Below are a small collection from some of the weddings I have shot at Viamede Resort over the past several years.

Excellent Pickering Winter Wedding – City Hall and Personal Chef

Late February, on a very cold day, Angela and Kevin tied-the-knot at the Pickering City Hall.  They had planned a simple and very private day where Kevin’s best man was his son Connor and Angela’s maid-of-honor was her close friend Maria.  They were the only people present while they both prepared for the day, in attendance at their City Hall ceremony and at their group photos after the wedding ceremony.  It wasn’t till we returned home that only one close couple joined them for an extravagant meal prepared and served to them by their own private chef!  Wow, what a great day for a great couple.  From the fun pictures where we included Portia, their whippet, to freezing our butts off on the snowy shore of Lake Ontario … it was a very fun afternoon.

Here are just a few from our time together.
