Baxter Creek Summer Wedding – Amanda & Logan

This past July I had the pleasure of photographing the perfect Saturday wedding of Amanda & Logan.  Their wedding was a great example of what a couple years of planning can produce.  Their day had a notable and well executed theme, a great venue with a dedicated wedding planner, great DJ’s and most importantly a very fun and supportive group of family and friends.

Let me start with their theme.  Their wedding theme was Disney.  It was a favorite location for Amanda and Logan and it was the destination of their honeymoon.  Their execution of a Disney theme was impressive.  Logan’s cufflinks and Amanda’s matching necklace were a clever detail that many would have not noticed.  What was very noticeable were the unique table centerpieces which were taken from Beauty & the Beast.  The floating rose under glass were quite unique.  In addition they had the magic mirror next to the guest sign-in table, a Micky & Mini cake toper, the Disney font used throughout their written messages, a special ring holder for the best man, the instrumental version of a popular Beauty & The Beast song used during Amanda’s impressive entrance in a horse drawn carriage, reminiscent to the Cinderella story.  These are just a few of the many details they included in their beautifully and tastefully executed wedding.

Next is their venue.  I’d like to give a shout out to Baxter Creek’s wedding and event planner Carolyn Westington.  I have shot at almost every wedding venue in the Kawartha’s over the past 10 years and have worked with many wedding planners.  I have never had a wedding planner give me the support I needed to do my job well for our clients.  Most wedding planners treat the other hired services as a hired service.  What I mean by that is each service is on their own to do a good job and represent themselves independently.  Where Carolyn differs is she would constantly touch base with me to see if she could help me to do the best job I could to ensure our clients were getting the best experience.  I found this very touching and I was impressed at how hard she worked to coordinate the different independent services to give Amanda & Logan a professional, unified experience.  I have worked with good wedding planners in the past, but never with one that is more personable.  A big thank you to Carolyn and the Baxter Creek crew for making my experience at this wedding venue one that stands out!  🙂

Also, for years I have worked many weddings with Terry & Gerri of Homemade Jam.  A Kawartha based husband and wife DJ service with over 2 decades of experience.  For this wedding Terry was the Master of Ceremony.  I’ve seen Terry MC weddings before and she does a great job of keeping things moving along while keeping things fun.  In all the years I have crossed paths with Terry & Gerri I have never seen an empty dance floor.  Naturally I have photographed weddings where other DJ’s were contracted and I should comment … I have seen empty dance floors.  A wedding always has a very diverse group of people with different tastes in their music.  It is a skill to read the audience and adapt to keep the majority happy and on their feet.  It is not as simple as putting together a play list of music when it comes to getting people to dance.  I have first hand seen the difference it makes.  Terry and Gerri are a very kind and dedicated couple that have been great to network with over the years.  It was great to work with them again!

Let me close out by saying this local wedding was a ton of fun to shoot.  Everyone was in good spirits, the weather was perfect (rare for this 2017 wedding season), the theme was excellently executed, Carolyn and Baxter Creek executed the wedding like a well oiled machine, Homemade Jam had the group on their feet the entire time I was there (which made for some great photos) and most importantly … Amanda & Logan had smiles on their faces all day.

Lisa and Spencer’s Wedding at the Peterborough Golf Club

This past October, later in the month, was the very fun and beautifully done wedding of Lisa and Spencer.  A day that list some late October days … had a great fall feel with impressive colours on the trees …. and the potential of snow.  On this day it turned out to be one of the coldest of the month.  That was unfortunate as their plans for an outside ceremony changed to an inside one (which Peterborough Golf Course easily accommodated).  Even though the ceremony took place indoors, the back wall with the windows overlooking the golf course made for a great backup location.

Their day started out like many wedding days, the guys getting ready at one location while the girls got ready at another.  I started my day at Lisa and Spencer’s home where the guys were having a great time getting themselves and a couple of the young boys ready.  Then it was off to Lisa’s parents home to capture the girls while they completed their the final prep.

It was at Peterborough Golf and Country Club that most of their wedding day took place.  A local, very convenient location for them to hold their wedding ceremony, family and wedding party pictures and then the reception (which entailed dinner, speeches, surprise video slideshow, my photo booth, great dancing and impressive fireworks).  I have shot weddings before at the Peterborough Golf Club before but this one certainly stands out for me.

To sum up … it was a wedding day that was perfectly executed and certainly a ton of fun.  The dining hall was beautifully decorated, the speeches were genuine and heartfelt, the meal was excellent, the music pumping, my photo booth was a big hit and the firework show they treated their guests too … WOW … very impressive.

Elmhirst Wedding – Carlene & Arthur

On a very rainy September day, Carlene & Arthur had a fantastic wedding at the beautiful Elmhirst Resort on Rice Lake, Keene.

Their day started out with both Carlene and Arthur getting ready in separate, on-site cottages.  One of the many benefits of having their wedding at Elmhirst Resort is the convenience of family and friends staying on-site in their own cottages so all they have to do is walk to the wedding.  That allowed me to walk from one cottage to another, then to the main facility for their ceremony.  Unfortunately, when I arrived at the ceremony location shortly before it was scheduled to start, the sky had not cleared up and the ceremony had to be moved indoors.  Fortunately, Elmhirst has two wedding rooms.  One was beautifully decorated for their dinner and the other was ready as a backup ceremony location.  The move to an indoor ceremony was unfortunate, however having that option worked perfectly for Carlene and Arthur’s day.

When it was time for the wedding party photos, Stephen Elmhirst, the very kind and hospitable resort owner, took us to the private wine cellar.  It was an impressive location and a cool atmosphere to create some images.  Then we took a short walk to a small greenhouse which was another great onsite location to use in poor weather.  When we finished in the greenhouse the rain had stopped so we did a quick shoot down at the water’s edge.  The stormy sky and winds made for some great lake images.   Then our schedule brought us back to their reception for more time with their fun guests, an awesome band and a great meal.

A huge thank you to Carlene and Arthur for being a great couple to work with.
