Winter Engagement Shoot & Winter Viamede Wedding

For some couples, the appeal of a winter engagement photography session cannot be denied.  In the case of Christine and Jay, not only did they elect to have their engagement photo session in January, they also have a winter wedding planned at the beautiful Viamede Resort!

Even though Christine and Jay are not currently local to the Kawartha’s, they have decided to have a winter Kawartha resort wedding which for many couples is a unique and beautiful event.  When asked for local destinations for their engagement shoot, I suggested it take place at a location I have used with great success in the past … the Kawartha Highlands Provincial Park.  The park is located only 1 minute north of downtown Buckhorn.  For a couple that is looking for an outdoor, natural, Kawartha feel to their photos, this location can’t be beat.  With its natural trails, exposed rock, wooden bridge and gentle river, it is a beautiful photography destination.  Oh … and perfect for those that want to include their dog!

Looking forward to their small and intimate wedding in February.

Lakeside Wedding at Viamede Resort

To start the 2016 wedding season off, I was once again at the beautiful Viamede Resort on Stoney Lake.  This time it was for the onsite ceremony and reception of Lindsay and Brydon.  A great couple from the Brantford area that also have a family cottage on Stoney Lake.  Viamede was the perfect venue for this family since they have such strong ties to Stoney Lake.

Their wedding day started with both the ladies and the guys getting ready in one of the honeymoon suites.  From there, a two minute walk had us at the commonly used lakeside location for the ceremony.  The weather was threatening, but luckily the rain held off until the ceremony was over.  One item that was unique to a ceremony is they had a wooden time capsule that they put items into and nailed shut.  A unique and great idea.  However, right after the ceremony the sky’s opened up so we made our way to the large deck on the back of the resort for the family formals.  We also made use of the Boathouse restaurant next to the main lodge for the wedding party pictures.  The Boathouse was a great fallback.  Lindsay, Brydon and their wedding party were in such great spirits that the poor weather simply didn’t matter.  Lindsay and Brydon had a great group of friends with them.  Everyone had a ton of fun in the Boathouse and the staff were great in letting us take over the restaurant for the half hour we were there.

When we completed the wedding party images we got lucky and the rain stopped for approx 10 minutes.  This allowed us to create a few images down by the water.  But the break in the rain was short lived and back inside we went.  The timing worked out as we had to return to the reception so that Lindsay and Brydon could have their first dance and then dinner could begin.

Two great MC’s, touching speeches and Lindsay and Brydon walking around to the tables to say hello and thank guests created a very fun and comfortable reception.  Before we knew it, dessert was being served, the bar reopened and the DJ put on some thumping music … the day had reached its last phase.

A big shout out to Lindsay and Brydon for selecting me to be their wedding photographer.  Your engagement shoot last year and this springs wedding were two very enjoyable events.  I hope the collection of images I have created for you will be a valued family keepsake.

Viamede Weddings – The True Kawartha Experience

Having shot so many weddings at Stoney Lake’s Viamede Resort, I thought it was time to do a blog post dedicated just to their venue.  Over all the years of my professional photography services, I have been at Viamede almost every year and have shot weddings there covering all four seasons.

Viamede Resort is a great venue for multiple reasons.  The first and most obvious is its location on the very highly regarded Stoney Lake.  Other reasons are the option of a lakeside ceremony or in their historic chapel (a great backup if the weather is poor), excellent meals, excellent on-site accommodations for all the guests, lots of activities for families if they are spending multiple days at the resort, very experienced and accommodating staff, etc.  In truth you would need to visit their website to learn everything they have to offer, I’m just sharing pieces that I have been exposed to over the years through my clients.

Below are a small collection from some of the weddings I have shot at Viamede Resort over the past several years.
