Elmhirst Wedding – Carlene & Arthur

On a very rainy September day, Carlene & Arthur had a fantastic wedding at the beautiful Elmhirst Resort on Rice Lake, Keene.

Their day started out with both Carlene and Arthur getting ready in separate, on-site cottages.  One of the many benefits of having their wedding at Elmhirst Resort is the convenience of family and friends staying on-site in their own cottages so all they have to do is walk to the wedding.  That allowed me to walk from one cottage to another, then to the main facility for their ceremony.  Unfortunately, when I arrived at the ceremony location shortly before it was scheduled to start, the sky had not cleared up and the ceremony had to be moved indoors.  Fortunately, Elmhirst has two wedding rooms.  One was beautifully decorated for their dinner and the other was ready as a backup ceremony location.  The move to an indoor ceremony was unfortunate, however having that option worked perfectly for Carlene and Arthur’s day.

When it was time for the wedding party photos, Stephen Elmhirst, the very kind and hospitable resort owner, took us to the private wine cellar.  It was an impressive location and a cool atmosphere to create some images.  Then we took a short walk to a small greenhouse which was another great onsite location to use in poor weather.  When we finished in the greenhouse the rain had stopped so we did a quick shoot down at the water’s edge.  The stormy sky and winds made for some great lake images.   Then our schedule brought us back to their reception for more time with their fun guests, an awesome band and a great meal.

A huge thank you to Carlene and Arthur for being a great couple to work with.

The Campbellford Wedding of Maxime & Ian

Recently I found myself at the beautiful home of Elizabeth & Bruce Thompson, the parents of my wedding client Ian and his stunning bride Maxime. Their century home with its detailed landscaping was a perfect, beautiful location to host an intimate family wedding.

Last year Maxime and Ian took me to the family cottage located at the 1000 Islands for their engagement shoot. It was a great ‘get to know you’ experience at a beautiful location. Before we left for their engagement shoot Maxime and Ian gave me a tour of Ian’s parent’s property and explained their wedding plans. To see it materialize a year later, exactly as they envisioned showed me their dedicated effort to put together a perfect day.

The day started with me capturing a surprise for Ian.  He is a musician (drummer) and he had a new drum set waiting for him at home as a wedding gift from Maxime.  Impressive!  He was speechless and it was a perfect gift.  After the guys were ready for the day I did the quick drive to Ian’s parent’s home to spend some time with the ladies as they finished their preparations.  After the moment of capturing Maxime’s father’s ‘first look’, we shot a few images on the beautiful staircase and then off to the backyard ceremony.  With the fantastic live band and surprise music performance of Maxime and Ian, the reception was underway and what a blast it was.  We were even blessed with an evening rainbow!

Even though there was a constant threat of rain on their wedding day, Mother Nature cooperated and their backyard ceremony and tent reception were perfect.

Peterborough Golf and Country Club Wedding – Dwan & Rob

At the end of summer on a day when the weather was perfect … the wedding of Peterborough locals Dwan & Rob took me to the beautiful and well known Peterborough Golf and Country Club. Many are not aware that the Peterborough Golf and Country Club has founded over 100 years ago in 1897! Here is a snippet from their website:

The first Clubhouse, opened in 1900, sat at the crown of Auburn Hill, overseeing three fairways. The Beechwood farmhouse, now the site of the PGCC curling rink, operated from the 1930s’ to 1959 when the current Clubhouse was opened. Since 1959, the PGCC has been an all season operation, anchored on golf and curling, and the Clubhouse has been improved and enlarged over the years.

As you can see from the small sample of images I am sharing on my blog, Dwan and Rob had both their wedding ceremony and reception on site. Just a short walk from the clubhouse is a quiet little corner with a gazebo that serves as a fantastic location for an intimate outdoor ceremony. After their ceremony it was off to the golf course for some quick wedding party and bride and groom photos. Since Rob and his buddies are golfers, I naturally had to create an image of Rob taking time out on his wedding day to hammer a few balls, all while Dwan wasn’t looking all that impressed. LOL

A huge thank you to Dwan and Rob for selecting me to be their wedding photographer. It was a ton of fun shooting both their friends wedding last year (Alison & Chad) and seeing everyone again at this wedding. I hope to get to shoot more of their friends and families weddings in the future.
