The Muskoka lakeside wedding of Stefanie & Tom

Mid August I had the pleasure of heading up to the beautiful eastern edge of the Muskoka region to the rural town of Dorset. The drive to Dorset from the Buckhorn area is beautiful. Unfortunately Mother Nature decided that on this Saturday we should be treated to rain … and lots of it.

As the day progressed, luck was on Stefanie and Tom’s side. Come the time of their lakeside ceremony the rain had eased up a bit and as the day progressed the rain held off for the remainder of the day! This was very lucky since they had setup several small shelters for the reception which would have been quite difficult to use for their ceremony if it was needed. But since the rain let up, they had a great ceremony on their dock and an even greater dance under the stars.

Stefanie and Tom’s very private wedding had many creatively done elements.  From a welcome sign on the highway greeting their guests, one-of-a-kind fans for the guests that also had the schedule of the day incorporated into them, to mini-canoes as thank you gifts … signs of their hard work (with help from family) were everywhere.  Both Tom and Stefanie participate in Jiu Jitsu (which is how they met), so it was cute to see this incorporated into their wedding cake topper.  Another element of Stefanie and Tom’s day that was unique was they did a private ring exchange before the ceremony.  Also, at this time Tom put Stefanie’s necklace on for her.  Another fun element to their ceremony was once the signing of the documents was complete, Tom paddled Stefanie away in the family canoe.  The entire day was a lot of fun and a very cottage wedding.

Stunning Wildfire Golf Club Wedding – Dianne and Frank of Douro

This past August 9th, 2014 I had the pleasure of photographing Dianne, Frank, family and friends at their elegant Wildfire Golf Club wedding. Both ceremony and reception took place at Wildfire, which is a private golf course north east of Peterborough, very close to Stoney Lake.

My day started out at their beautiful home on Clear Lake, just a short drive from Wildfire Golf Club. At Dianne and Frank’s home I started off by capturing the fellows as they prepared for the day. For a brief moment Frank’s son Jake, who’s a professional musician, played a small piece on their grand piano. Even though it was brief, it sounded great. I’ve shot weddings in the past where Jake provided the live music and he always does a great job. Here is a link to his website. There are samples of his work on his website.

When the guys were done getting ready, the ladies showed up and were just about ready to go to the ceremony as they did their hair, makeup and clothing elsewhere. With a little juggling of logistics in their home, Frank was able to slip out with not seeing Dianne nor her him. When the ladies did a couple final touch-ups at home (such as flowers in Dianne’s hair, a beautiful flower crown for the flower girl and a surprise gift of a locket necklace for the flower girl), the ladies were ready for some outdoor photos in the beautiful gardens around the home and a few group shots at the lake.

When the time had approached I ran off to Wildfire Golf Club and captured some of the stunningly elegant decorating that Frank and Dianne had orchestrated. The clubhouse was beautiful not just in the architecture but in the lengths Dianne and Frank went to for the flowers (expertly done by Rhod and Marg Millers) and many other little details (as you’ll see in a couple of the images below). There was even awesome His and Her wedding cakes (by Marilyn Shaw)!

Their ceremony took place with approx 160 guests in attendance behind the clubhouse at the 18th green overlooking the pond and waterfall. With the perfect weather, it was a beautiful scene. When the fellows walked into the ceremony, Frank was so excited for things to finally be happening he danced the whole way in! (see below image). Their soloist (Lloyd Knight) that sung to the group before the ceremony and during the signing of the marriage documents was excellent. He also sang a few songs for them during the reception which was quite beautiful and unique. The ladies were all shuttled into the ceremony on golf carts via a long drive up the 18th fairway. The drivers of the ladies golf carts where the three young ushers who’s group pic I included below. With the music playing in the background and how they timed everything, it was quite a beautiful scene.

After the ceremony we created keepsake images of the wedding party as well as Frank and Dianne (including the super moon that was out that night) then we were back at the reception for dinner, speeches, dancing and a photo booth that I setup for some fun late night pictures.

Beautiful Stoney Lake Wedding – Viamede Resort – Alyse & Ken

Fun. That is how I would sum up the June wedding of Alyse and Ken. They are a fun, easy going couple with a great young son (Avery) that wanted nothing more than to have an enjoyable day with their family and friends on the shores of Stoney Lake at the popular Viamede Resort.

My time started with Ken, his son, Best-man and father at his parents cottage in the Burleigh Falls area. After the fellows were done, I quickly drove to Viamede and spent an hour with Alyse and her Maid-of-Honor in the newly renovated Honeymoon Suite. After a couple small hiccups with Alyse’s dress were dealt with, Alyse was looking beautiful and set for her wedding day. A short walk from the honeymoon suite took us to the awesome waterfront ceremony location that is commonly used at Viamede. Even with including the unique element of a dove release, their wedding ceremony went off without a hitch. After the ceremony we did a quick group photo of everyone at their wedding (there is a great spot to do this next to the popular ceremony location), we quickly had fun getting the family formals done and went straight into the wedding party and bride & groom photos. With the ease of walking around Viamede, we were at their reception for the exact time we needed to be. This was immediately followed by a very well done meal. I’d like to thank Alyse and Ken for including me in the fantastic meal they had ordered. After the meal some heart felt and humorous speeches were delivered and then there was a quick transition into the dancing. A great end to a great day.

Here are just a few of my favorites from their day.
