This past February 1st was like most days this winter. Snowfall … and lots of it! But what made this day different for Laura & Shawn of Whitby was they had their unique winter wedding planned and it was taking place a little east of Bancroft. Laura and Shawn booked the 150 acre Cedar Ridge Camp for the entire weekend so their family and friends could have a get-away weekend at this beautiful Kawartha camp. This was my first time to Cedar Ridge Camp and it is a beautiful Kawartha retreat. Regardless of the time of year, this remote location is very picturesque.
My day started just after lunch at the Best Western in Bancroft. This was where Laura was getting ready. Approx 45 minutes before the start of the ceremony I left for Cedar Ridge Camp so that I could arrive before Laura and her family. When I arrived their guests were inside the main lodge and excited about what was to start because this wedding ceremony was scheduled to take place outside and on the frozen lake! With a path cleared through the deep snow that went from the backdoor of the lodge to a cleared place on the lake, it was clear that even with the heavy snowfall this outdoor ‘on the lake’ wedding was going to move forward. When it was time for the ceremony to start, guests headed out onto the lake, brushed the snow off their chairs, sat down and watched the main event. When we were out on the lake this past Saturday February 1st, when it was snowing so heavily, it was a little surreal as it was dead silent out on the ice. The atmosphere of this ceremony was quite unique. In this beautiful venue, at this time of year, it really felt like we were the only people in the world for a brief few minutes.
After the ceremony Laura and Shawn wanted to include their love of hockey in their wedding day. So with nets setup, and their guests standing at the side-lines, a brief but violent game took place. The intensity and passion for the game of hockey was evident as they hadn’t been married 30 minutes and they were ready to draw blood! All kidding aside, it was a fun element to add to their wedding day.
As night fell, we headed inside to get warmed up and then the staff of Cedar Ridge Camp promptly served a fantastic meal. Their guests sat at a single long table that was positioned in front of the wood burning fireplace. It was a lovely, private family affair.
I’d like to thank Laura and Shawn for selecting me to be their private wedding photographer for the day. Here are just a few of my person selections from their wedding photography collection.
