Winter Engagement Shoot & Winter Viamede Wedding

For some couples, the appeal of a winter engagement photography session cannot be denied.  In the case of Christine and Jay, not only did they elect to have their engagement photo session in January, they also have a winter wedding planned at the beautiful Viamede Resort!

Even though Christine and Jay are not currently local to the Kawartha’s, they have decided to have a winter Kawartha resort wedding which for many couples is a unique and beautiful event.  When asked for local destinations for their engagement shoot, I suggested it take place at a location I have used with great success in the past … the Kawartha Highlands Provincial Park.  The park is located only 1 minute north of downtown Buckhorn.  For a couple that is looking for an outdoor, natural, Kawartha feel to their photos, this location can’t be beat.  With its natural trails, exposed rock, wooden bridge and gentle river, it is a beautiful photography destination.  Oh … and perfect for those that want to include their dog!

Looking forward to their small and intimate wedding in February.

Emilie & Dave’s New Years Eve Wedding (Picton)

This past New Year’s Eve, Emilie & Dave had their beautiful and elegant barn wedding at Picton’s The Mill House in Prince Edward County (very close to Sandbanks Provincial Park).  This gorgeous location not only offered a custom-built wedding venue barn (with heated floors and built-in audio system), but a two storey farm house that was rented for the occasion.  This was incredibly convenient for a wedding where many family members were not local and wanted to use the same location for a ‘home base’ for the Bride’s family. As well they were able to use a second barn (12 km away) for the Groom’s family called the Old Dairy Barn At Sandbanks.

Emilie and Dave’s wedding was unique (at least unique for me).  They wanted a WOW experience for their arrival to the ceremony and they certainly achieved it.  When Dave proposed to Emilie while they were out West, he surprised her with a helicopter ride into the Rockie Mountains.  To include that into their wedding, the two of them (and I) flew via helicopter to The Mill House for the ceremony.  We departed from the old Picton airport (a photographer’s dream location with its old buildings) and had a short 1200ft tour of Prince Edward County.  We then circled the venue and made the big entrance. Only a couple of people knew about the surprise and they did a great job of getting all the guests outside next to the barn for the big arrival.

I choose a Black & White theme for this preview because I felt it represented the elegance and sophistication of this wedding.  It was a beautiful wedding day with excellent family and guests, a great meal, the ceremonial cutting of the cake with a sword, a beautiful venue, touching speeches, fun photo booth and great music … with a  grand finale of an impressive midnight fireworks display courtesy of North Star Fireworks Entertainment.

A huge thank you to Emilie and Dave for hiring me to be their private wedding photographer for the day.  Even though I was with them for 12 hours (12:30pm to 12:30am), the time flew by (pun intended) and it was a very fun day.  I wish them all the best.

Lisa and Spencer’s Wedding at the Peterborough Golf Club

This past October, later in the month, was the very fun and beautifully done wedding of Lisa and Spencer.  A day that list some late October days … had a great fall feel with impressive colours on the trees …. and the potential of snow.  On this day it turned out to be one of the coldest of the month.  That was unfortunate as their plans for an outside ceremony changed to an inside one (which Peterborough Golf Course easily accommodated).  Even though the ceremony took place indoors, the back wall with the windows overlooking the golf course made for a great backup location.

Their day started out like many wedding days, the guys getting ready at one location while the girls got ready at another.  I started my day at Lisa and Spencer’s home where the guys were having a great time getting themselves and a couple of the young boys ready.  Then it was off to Lisa’s parents home to capture the girls while they completed their the final prep.

It was at Peterborough Golf and Country Club that most of their wedding day took place.  A local, very convenient location for them to hold their wedding ceremony, family and wedding party pictures and then the reception (which entailed dinner, speeches, surprise video slideshow, my photo booth, great dancing and impressive fireworks).  I have shot weddings before at the Peterborough Golf Club before but this one certainly stands out for me.

To sum up … it was a wedding day that was perfectly executed and certainly a ton of fun.  The dining hall was beautifully decorated, the speeches were genuine and heartfelt, the meal was excellent, the music pumping, my photo booth was a big hit and the firework show they treated their guests too … WOW … very impressive.
