Michelle & Jason Lakeside Wedding at Viamede Resort – Stoney Lake

Mid September I was once again hanging out at the beautiful Stoney Lake resort Viamede. Michelle and Jason had a fantastic day planned but the day started off with a lousy forecast. Luckily for all, shortly before their lakeside ceremony was to start the rain stopped and the sun started to peek out! Mother Nature was kind and gave us a break in the weather so we could take advantage of the beautiful Kawartha wedding experience with lots of lakeside images. From the start of the girls day at Lakefield’s Sunshrine Day Spa, to the dancing and parting late into the evening in Viamede’s dining hall, Michelle and Jason had a fantastic wedding.

All day long both Michelle and Jason were in great spirits and this comes across in their excellent images. A big thank you to Michelle and Jason for selecting myself to be their personal professional photographer for the day.

Irwin Inn Wedding on Stoney Lake – Kawarthas – Jennie & Dave

End of August I was once again at the beautiful Stoney Lake resort Irwin Inn. Jennie & Dave of the Peterborough area took over the resort with their family and friends for the 2nd last weekend in August and what a fantastic weekend it was! Not only did I spend all Saturday with them on a perfect weather day (at least perfect for outdoor photography), I was back on the Sunday morning for a trash the dress shoot and the Sunday was sunny and warm. Two days of non-stop wedding and family fun for Jennie & Dave, and non-stop great photography for me. In such a beautiful location, with perfect weather and very photogenic people, I couldn’t go wrong!

My day started out going to the very popular honeymoon suite @ Irwin Inn. I have shot at many venues through-out southern Ontario (with the majority being north-east of Toronto) and I can say that the honeymoon suite at Irwin Inn is the nicest room at a resort I have seen. With the two level, open concept design and lots of windows overlooking Stoney Lake, it is a fantastic location for any bride to prepare for their day.

Not long after I had spent time with Jennie and her family I walked over to the guys cottage for some fun getting ready images and a few shots on the dock. Then I was back to Jennie’s suite for the final details of dress and jewelery. Once that important time of the day arrived, we hopped onto a tractor driven wagon to be shuttled off to a private field that Irwin Inn houses on their very large property. This beautiful remote location was perfect for Jennie and Dave as it was not far from the main resort buildings, it was surrounded by tree’s for extra privacy and could easily accommodate the small number of guests in attendance. After a fun ceremony done by Murray Lincoln (Murray is a very talented wood worker -> www.murraylincoln.com) we were off to the open field by the pond for family formals.

After we finished up the fun and casual family formals, down to the water we went for wedding party pic’s as well as images of Jennie & Dave. As you can see in the pic’s the flower girls with their umbrella’s were quite cute. Also, Jennie and Dave braved floating around in a canoe for a short while so I could get some truly Kawartha wedding photography images.

Their reception took place on the open deck overlooking Stoney Lake. With the perfect weather, it was a perfect evening. Both the dinner and their first dance took place on the open deck. After the first dance, everyone retreated into the main dining room for an evening of dancing and party.

The following Sunday I arrived at Irwin Inn and the three of us drove to the active horse farm on the property for some excellent trash the dress images. It was great to see Dave join in the shoot. We explored the very old barn, the field next to the barn then we headed back to the water for some water trampoline and beach images. Every location was great. Lots of diversity for their images.

As usual, below are a handful of my favorites from their very busy two days.

The Muskoka lakeside wedding of Stefanie & Tom

Mid August I had the pleasure of heading up to the beautiful eastern edge of the Muskoka region to the rural town of Dorset. The drive to Dorset from the Buckhorn area is beautiful. Unfortunately Mother Nature decided that on this Saturday we should be treated to rain … and lots of it.

As the day progressed, luck was on Stefanie and Tom’s side. Come the time of their lakeside ceremony the rain had eased up a bit and as the day progressed the rain held off for the remainder of the day! This was very lucky since they had setup several small shelters for the reception which would have been quite difficult to use for their ceremony if it was needed. But since the rain let up, they had a great ceremony on their dock and an even greater dance under the stars.

Stefanie and Tom’s very private wedding had many creatively done elements.  From a welcome sign on the highway greeting their guests, one-of-a-kind fans for the guests that also had the schedule of the day incorporated into them, to mini-canoes as thank you gifts … signs of their hard work (with help from family) were everywhere.  Both Tom and Stefanie participate in Jiu Jitsu (which is how they met), so it was cute to see this incorporated into their wedding cake topper.  Another element of Stefanie and Tom’s day that was unique was they did a private ring exchange before the ceremony.  Also, at this time Tom put Stefanie’s necklace on for her.  Another fun element to their ceremony was once the signing of the documents was complete, Tom paddled Stefanie away in the family canoe.  The entire day was a lot of fun and a very cottage wedding.
